What is a cookie?

An "Internet cookie" (known also as browser cookie" or "HTTP cookie" or simply "cookie") is a small file consisting of letters and numbers, which will be stored on the computer, mobile device or other equipment of a user from which he is accessing the Internet. The cookie is installed at the request issued by the Web server to a browser (examples: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari) and is completely "passive" (it does not contain software, viruses or spyware and cannot access files from the user's storage drive). A cookie consists of two parts: the name and the content (or its value). Furthermore, the existence duration of a cookie is determined. Only the web server that sent the cookie can access it again when the user returns to the associated site. Cookies, in most cases, do not personally identify Internet users.
